The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) has created a new Form 1, which is the form used by individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination under the Human Rights Code to start a claim with the HRTO. The new Form 1 is shorter than the old version and is meant to simplify the application process. There is also a new form, the Form 1G, to be used where filing an application on behalf of another. All of the HRTO’s forms can be found on their website here.
The HRTO will continue to accept and process applications using the previous version of the Form 1 until June 12, 2023. If you use the old Form 1 after June 12, the HRTO will not accept your application and it will be returned to you.
The HRTO recommends that parties review its Applicant’s Guide or Respondent’s Guide before completing these forms. You can also refer to the HRLSC’s How-to Guides for more information.
