The following are definitions for the types of cases you may encounter:

  • Cases Decided at Hearing:
    Cases where HRLSC provided representation to an applicant at a hearing, resulting in a resolved case before a hearing at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. 
  • Settlement at Mediation:
    Settlements negotiated at a Tribunal mediation or directly between the parties. In settlement agreements, applicants do not withdraw their allegations and the respondents do not acknowledge any of the facts as alleged. 
  • Tackling Systemic Discrimination:
    Systemic discrimination is when discrimination happens because of a business practice, a workplace policy, or a government program and it is not limited to a single incident or occurrence. It can also affect a large number of people.
