Get Assistance with your Mediation or with an Early Resolution

The Human Rights Legal Support Centre (HRLSC) offers legal assistance to help you prepare for mediation or explore early resolution strategies.

Our Legal Support Teams:

The HRLSC has expanded its early resolution and mediation services for its clients through two new initiatives: the Mediation, Early Resolution & Experiential Training (MEET) Project (in partnership with Osgoode Hall Law School) and Early Intervention and Mediation Services (EIMS). The MEET Project and EIMS Unit also educate and inform Ontarians about the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) system, the benefits of mediation, and the advantages of alternate dispute resolutions of their legal disputes through negotiations and settlements.

In this section:

What are Mediations and Early Resolutions?

Mediation: If you file an application at the HRTO, you will be required to attend a mediation, where you and the person or organization that you filed your application against will meet with a member of the HRTO to try to settle your application. This means you will try to come to a voluntary agreed upon resolution. If you are unable to resolve the issue at a mediation, you will then proceed to a hearing.

Early Resolution: Some human rights issues can be resolved through a phone call or letter, making a request to the person or organization you believe is violating your human rights, without going to a hearing at the HRTO.
